About Denise

Denise Berger, FAIA, joined AECOM in February 2020, as the Chief Strategy and Information Officer for the U.S. East Region and LATHAM. Her responsibilities include driving strategy, growth and execution on Key Accounts, Digital Transformation, ESG and Strategic Marketing across the business lines in the region: Transportation, Water, Building + Places, Environment, and Project and Program Management. A results-oriented leader with more than 30-years of experience in transportation and infrastructure, Berger was the former chief of operations for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. In this capacity, she was responsible for a $1.3B annual budget and the delivery of the agency’s $37B ten-year capital plan. A champion of diversity and inclusion, Berger serves on several industry boards including the Construction Institute’s Woman Who Build Summit; Columbia University’s Diversity & Inclusion Task Force; Professional Women in Construction; WTS International Board; ACE Mentor Program of Greater NY; SAME; and the NY Women’s Builder’s Council. Her innovative D&I policies and programs have produced notable outcomes, including the launch of the PANYNJ Women’s Council and in 2019, she was named WTS Woman of the Year.

About Carol

Carol Gladstone was appointed by Governor Baker to serve as Commissioner of the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) and started in that role on Feb. 26, 2015. She comes to this position with more than 35 years of experience in both public and private real estate and project management. Prior to her appointment, Gladstone was a Principal in project management and real estate at Stantec Consulting, an international architecture and engineering firm, following the acquisition of her firm GLC Development Resources. GLC was co-founded in 2000, and provided real estate development and advisory services to private, public and non-profit clients. Gladstone’s public sector experience includes three years as the Assistant Receiver for Community and Economic Development for the city of Chelsea during the state receivership. She also spent time in state government as the director of Real Estate for DCPO (the previous name for DCAMM).


Gladstone began her career as a project manager at the Beacon Companies, where she was responsible for the award winning Rowes Wharf mixed-use waterfront project and the Hotel Meridien (now Langham Hotel). She previously served as vice chairwoman of the Massachusetts State College Building Authority and as a Trustee of the Emerald Necklace Conservancy. She is currently board president of the Brookline Arts Center.

About Janine

Janine Helwig is the Director of Utilities in the Department of Facilities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She oversees MIT’s Central Utilities Plant, which consists of a 44 MW combined heat and power plant, and is responsible for the efficient operation and management of all campus electricity, heating, and cooling resources and distribution systems. Helwig leads her team on sustainable planning efforts to address MIT’s future energy needs while also meeting MIT’s commitment to reducing carbon. She has 17 years of experience in facilities management, with 10 years in higher education. Prior to joining MIT in 2021, Helwig served as the Director of Utilities and Engineering at The George Washington University located in Washington, DC, which was her foray into district energy management. She is a registered Professional Engineer in DC and MD, a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and a Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP). She holds a Bachelor’s in Environmental Engineering from Cornell University and a Master’s in Environmental Process Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University.

About Petina

Petina Killiany is a Senior Vice President with Arcadis, a global design and consultancy firm which operates in four Business Lines; Water, Infrastructure, Buildings and Environment. She is the Program Management/Construction Management (PMCM) Operations Director nationally for the Infrastructure/Buildings Business Lines in North America. While Arcadis has four Business Lines, Killiany and her peers are encouraged to collaborate and work across all Business Lines which can be mutually beneficial for clients and Arcadis alike. Her responsibilities include; Performance in regard to the company’s and her operations P&L, Client Development/company growth, and People, identifying, hiring, mentoring and retaining our people. Killiany has more than 30 years’ experience in the AEC industry, of which the first half was in the architectural field, and the last half in the PMCM industry. She lives in Cazenovia, NY, but can be found on most days in an airport or in one of Arcadis’ 148 offices in the US.

About Karen

As Executive Vice President, CMO, Global Sales and Marketing, Karen Medeiros leads Gilbane Building Company’s business development teams to execute the firm’s sales strategy and engages audiences to continuously build Gilbane’s global brand and visibility. Her collaborative approach has generated award-winning campaigns, innovative digital strategies, and original channels that inspire connectivity with clients, industry partners, and employees. She has held progressive roles during her long-standing career years at Gilbane including marketing management and client development in New England, divisional sales management in the greater Washington DC area, and corporate senior leadership. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.


Medeiros is inspired by serving her industry and community. She is the Treasurer for the National Construction Safety Week, an industry-wide annual event that brings together more than 70 national and global construction firms and sponsors to motivate everyone in the industry to be leaders in safety. Medeiros is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary which is dedicated to serving veterans, the military, and their families. She is a former elected school committee member in Somerset, Massachusetts, and has served on several boards including the Somerset Federal Credit Union and the Charlton College of Business at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

About David

With over 27 years of experience, David Slomsky is recognized as one of the best in the industry when it comes to preconstruction. As Vice President of Preconstruction at Suffolk Construction Company​, Slomsky is responsible for controlling the project budget and managing the design process. He has keen insight into the conceptualization, design, and constructability of our projects and is a valuable resource during the preconstruction phase for owners, architects, and engineers. He excels at the implementation of advanced technologies on our projects such as conceptual estimating tools, macro BIM tools, integrated project delivery, and Lean systems, including Target Value Design. Slomsky oversees all preconstruction efforts, including constructability reviews, staging plans, schedules, trade partner proposals, value engineering suggestions, final budget estimates, and other portions of work. He is available throughout the preconstruction process and beyond as a resource and point of contact for Suffolk’s clients. Slomsky spent the first half of his career managing complex projects in the Washington, DC metro area prior to joining Suffolk in 2004. Projects in his impressive portfolio of work in the Boston area include Brigham and Women’s Hospital Building for Transformative Medicine, Northeastern University Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering Complex, The Broad Institute, and the John W. Olver Design Building at UMass Amherst. Slomsky holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University.

About Wendy

Wendy Venoit is a Shareholder with Cozen O’Connor in Boston, MA. Her practice focuses on the litigation and arbitration of domestic and international construction disputes, including mediation and arbitration before the AAA, JAMS, LCIA, ICDR and ICC. She is an experienced trial attorney, having handled dozens of construction disputes, some involving claims in excess of $1 billion. Most recently, she obtained an arbitration award in excess of $237 million for her client in an international arbitration arising out of the wrongful termination of an EPC Contract. She also serves as an arbitrator and is a member of the panel of neutrals of the AAA (Construction), AAA Mega Projects, ICDR, CPR (Construction, Insurance Policy Holder Coverage, and Boston at Large ADR Panels), LCIA, and ICC and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Venoit is a Past Chair of the ABA Forum on Construction Law, a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers, co-chair of the CIArb Boston Chapter, Board Member of the CIArb North American Branch, Board Council of the AAA, Board Member of Women in Construction and National Board Development Committee of Girl Scouts USA. For the past eight years, she has been named in the International Who's Who of Construction Law and was recently named Massachusetts Lawyer of the Year.
